Danny or Not Danny? Ongoing
Danny or Not Danny? is a personal and conceptual exploration of change, memory, and disappearance. In 2008, my uncle vanished in Delhi, India. When I returned to the country for the first time since 2009, I was drawn to photography as a way to explore not just the physical landscape that had transformed over time, but also the philosophical questions of reality itself.
This project isn’t about finding my uncle, but rather about tracing the possible pathways of his disappearance. Family members have spoken of the randomness surrounding his vanishing, and through my lens, I searched for visual clues, hoping reality might reveal new angles or possibilities. The work invites viewers to embrace the uncertainty and messiness that come with navigating unresolved events. It questions our relationship to reality and challenges us to reflect on our role within it.
The photographs depict locations, objects, and moments that connect to this story, incorporating techniques of photojournalism, image appropriation, and reenactment. These images explore a landscape charged with history, memory, and emotion, playing with the boundaries of photographic truth and deconstructing a deeply personal narrative. The unknown is central to this project—not only as an artistic theme but also as a deeply personal experience. This journey involves me as both a photographer and a nephew, navigating the unresolved mystery of my uncle’s disappearance and the shifting realities that surround it.
